Topic: Data vs. Metrics: How and When to Benchmark

A successful organization can only measure so many things well, and what it measures ties to its definition of success. There is a difference between numbers and numbers that matter. This is what separates data from metrics. At this meeting, Dr. Isilay Civan, facilities consultant with HOK, former chair of IFMA’s Research Committee and member of the IFMA Board of Directors, will discuss meaningful metrics, how and when to benchmark, where to get reliable data, and how to best use it. Dr. Civan will also briefly summarize the results of IFMA’s newly published Facility Cost Study, talk about IFMA’s benchmarking tools and resources, and introduce us to IFMA’s next benchmarking study on Operations and Maintenance practices.
